MOSCOW STUD FARM NO 1 TO HOST FIRST WINGED HEART OF RUSSIA CHAMPIONSHIP OF RUSSIAN TROIKAS

The first Winged Heart of Russia traditional carriage riding tournament for Russian troikas will be held on 14 August at Moscow Stud Farm No 1 in Gorki-10.

The Russian troikas will drive around obstacles and perform complex figures. The audience will see both the classic parade troikas, consisting of the Orlov Trotters that are the showpiece of the Stud Farm, and troikas of different breeds from Moscow city, Moscow and Vladimir regions, and Kostroma. Guests will also see the troikas run an exciting combined course and learn the history of this traditional three-horse combination.

The parade of participants will be opened by Russia’s most famous troika with Aleksandrit as the centre horse. This is the troika that opened the Vesti news programme for many years.

The colourful, relaxed format of the current tournament will significantly expand the number of participants, bring the art of the Russian troika to a new level, and promote the Russian Championship for Russian troikas.

The Russian troika, or horses in a bow harness, has been one of the most striking symbols of Russia since the 19th century. Nikolai Gogol considered the troika a historical symbol of our country, and Ivan Turgenev introduced the word to the rest of the world as editor of a Russian-French dictionary. The tournament’s organisers are committed to preserving the vanishing art of troika driving as a cultural legacy for the entire equestrian industry, from professional horse breeders and drivers to carriage driving enthusiasts and everyone who cares about the history of Russia and its traditions.

The tournament will be accompanied by a local farmers market and a dressage test for Orlov Trotters. The Presidential Regiment’s Cavalry Escort will perform mounted drills, and there will be a fashion show featuring special occasion hats from Lilia Gureeva.

The organisers are the Rosplemkonzavod Association, PJSC Acron, Moscow Stud Farm No 1, and the Society of Carriage Driving Enthusiasts.
