Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 Hosts Second Winged Heart of Russia Championship for Russian Troikas
On 13 August 2022, Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 hosted the second Winged Heart of Russia championship for Russian troikas. The event attracted a capacity crowd, bringing together industry professionals and traditional carriage driving enthusiasts. The tournament was organised by Moscow Stud Farm No. 1, the Rosplemkonzavod Association, PJSC Acron and the Society of Carriage Driving Enthusiasts.
Nine troikas from Moscow, Vladimir, Kostroma, Tver and other regions competed in route driving with elements of figure driving and obstacles imitating city driving. The audience watched the troikas running an exciting combined course and learnt the history of this traditional three-horse combination.
The tournament was themed Riding across Russia. Each participant was asked to talk about their city, way and adventures. The jury evaluated driving skills in obstacle overcoming, speed, artistic skills of the competitors and troika presentation.
The troika from Arkhangelsk region driven by Andrey Peretyagin (Velskaya Agrofirm, horses Logist, Western and Zarbek) made its debut at Winged Heart of Russia by taking third place. Second place went to Acron’s troika of Orlov Trotters Kavalergard, Romeo and Incognito. Master Leonid Smagliy (Konnik Podmoskovia) assisted by Yulia Orlova and Anna Starshinova won the tournament for the second time in a row. This year, he drove a troika of young Orlov Trotters Kamerist, Bratsk and Kapelmeister, and gave a performance inspired by Hussars.
The event also featured a local farmers market, a fashion show of hats by Lilia Gureeva and a dressage test for Moscow Stud Farm’s Orlov Trotters. The Presidential Regiment’s Cavalry Escort demonstrated its mounted drills and received tremendous cheers from the spectators.
