Jaguar Show-Jumping Cup

On June 14, 2008 Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 hosted the Jaguar amateur show-jumping tournament, which is sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover Russia.  Fourteen amateur riders and six professionals took part in the competitions.

The First Start special contest (with obstacles up to 80 cm) for first-time competitors was won by Alexey Voinov on the stallion Darling. Mikhail Starshinov riding Lankom came in second and Oscar Valters riding Khospa came in third.

Women riders outperformed the men in the show-jumping competitions for experienced riders (with obstacles up to 100 cm). Natalia Korobova riding the stallion Zagar finished with the fastest time and received no penalty points. Olga Vait riding Vizir came in second and Olga Reiman riding Kontist came in third.

After the amateur performances, top Russian show jumpers held a master class to demonstrate techniques for jumping obstacles up to 150 cm on a specially designed route. Anatoly Shishkov riding Plenum came in first, completing the route in 53 seconds with no penalty points; Mikhail Atoyan riding Optika came in second at one second later; and Andrey Belozerov riding Tarzan came in third.

The day’s programme ended with a contest for riding costumes. A special jury of celebrities and business leaders judged the costumes on originality and how well they matched the riders’ horses. Yekaterina Dorenko’s oriental-style costume received top billing from the jury, and designer Nadezhda Skazka received a special prize for the expressiveness of her entry.

After riders’ awards were handed out, participants and the audience moved to a specially arranged art gallery showcasing the works of contemporary masters of the horse genre, including the sculptor Sergey Bondarenko and painter Yaroslav Kolobaev.
