LETTER FROM YURY PROKHOROV, DIRECTOR OF MOSCOW STUD FARM NO. 1
Dear Friends,
On the New Year eve, I would like to recap the highlights of the passing year and make plans for the future. In 2022, Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 performed well despite apparent difficulties.
Our strong team, as ever before, rose to the challenges and continued selective Orlov Trotter breeding in strict compliance with our processes, using the most promising sires and testing youngsters on various racetracks.
We had a successful 19th annual Orlov Trotter autumn auction and sold the largest number of horses in the past few years (23 out of 39 offered for sale) to buyers from across Russia.
Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 continued promoting the Russian troika by hosting the second Winged Heart of Russia championship for Russian troikas in cooperation with the Rosplemkonzavod Association and the Society of Carriage Driving Enthusiasts. This tournament went with flying colours and was even more successful and spectacular than the first one, and Orlov Trotters performed at their best.
Our horses won prizes on several national racetracks: Fakir won the Russian Winter Prize and the Andrey Sokolov Memorial Cup at the Moscow Hippodrome, setting the cup’s record and equalling the Hippodrome’s Orlov Trotter record; Kalligrafia came in first in both rounds of the Chesmensky Stud Farm Prize at the competition for three-year-old mares and the Viktor Grits Memorial prize race; Buntovshchik won the Pion Prize in both rounds in Kazan; Kolenkor received the Pion Prize at the Novosibirsk Hippodrome; Kirovsk was the best at the Bars Prize tournament at the Ramenskoye Hippodrome, Kapital won the Count Alexey Orlov Memorial Cup, and Geizer came in first at the Kvadrat Prize and the Khrenovskoy Stud Prize races held at the Moscow Hippodrome.
Anatoly Shishkov (Rada) from Moscow Stud Farm No. 1 won a gold medal at the Regions Cup and was the best at the Igor Gershtansky Memorial Cup. Yana Zakharova (Ridel) won a bronze medal at the Russian Cup.
In 2022, Moscow Stud Farm hosted several equestrian events, including the Igor Gershtansky Memorial Cup, the Nikolay Shurygin Show Jumping and Dressage Memorial Cup, and the New Year Carnival show jumping and dressage tournament. For its contribution to the development of thoroughbred and commercial livestock breeding, the Stud Farm was awarded a gold medal at the 2022 Russian Golden Autumn agro-industry trade show.
Next year, we will continue our efforts to improve Orlov Trotters and advance national horse breeding.
In the upcoming year, I wish our friends, partners and employees robust health, prosperity, confidence and success in all their endeavours.
Happy New Year 2023!
Sincerely,
Yury Prokhorov
